Fall Back on Your Clocks!

Okay, reason #112 of why I love this season is because I finally get my hour back!!! Yes, daylight savings time ends on Sunday, November 1, 2015, @ 2:00 am. But, if your body is like mine, it has adjusted to the losing an hour back in March. I already know that I won't have any problems though adjusting to that extra hour that is coming back. My only downfall about this time change is, it's going to get dark when I get off work at 5 pm. Not a fan of that and I work in a busy area. But, God has always been my Pilot and my Protector, so I'm safe in His Arms.

But back to rejoicing...my extra hour comes back!!! Who's excited??? ME!! I need all of the extra time I can get on my hands nowadays.

If you live off of electronic devices, make sure you have time set to "set automatically". Meaning your devices will automatically change to the time difference. Here's a hint for you to make sure your settings are correct.

iPhone Settings

Android Settings

If you have clocks in your home that you manually have to change (wall clocks, microwave, oven, plug-ins), set you a reminder to do so.

Until next time, I'm preparing to gain my hour back!!!

Whew, finally a small break!

I thought today would never come?!?!? I can't remember the last time I had a free Saturday, yet alone a free day. I am going to take in every second of today...lol. I have been so busy the last couple of months. I have been preparing for church events, sorority events, blogging posts, my first live hosting event (in which you should go to EventBrite to get your tickets to come to...lol), football games, conference calls, making sure the home is kept in order, work, and so much more. Just typing this makes me tired.  I have not had the time to even really get a good night sleep because of going to bed so late and having to get up early.

BUT...there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I don't have that much left on my calendar for the months of November and December. I have now linked all 6 of my calendars, so I won't double book. I am really bad in doing that. Please don't laugh at my 6 calendars (Phone, iPad, 2 paper calendars, & 2 hanging calendars). Trust me, they are all put to use now.  I have really started using my "to-do list". I have always had one, but did I put it to use...of course not! I now have it at my right-hand side (both on paper and my phone).  These last months, have reminded me about the apps I have on my phone to help organize my crazy, busy life.

I guess I'm going to now start taking my own advice I give others, you need a day of rest. So, I'm going to make sure that I have a day of resting and to do things that I like to do.  Me being busy have thrown off my schedule of things I love to do. But as I stated, I'm going to truly go my schedule now and focus on the important things. My sorority sister told me that you must have balance in life and this is now my focus...BALANCE. This break today is going to make me get back balanced.

So, I'm off to enjoy my day. I need this break!

Until next time, I'm relaxing!!

10 Things I love about My Husband!

I have been married for 5 years now and I don't think I tell my husband enough of how I love him and appreciate him. I really do love him and I think the world knows that I do. I don't mind bragging on him. But do I tell him? Do I show it? Well, I'm composing a list of 10 things I love about my husband.

Here goes...

1) God fearing man.
This is something that I definitely prayed for. I wanted someone that was on the same or a better level in their relationship with Christ. This is something we both can relate to and uplift each other to go further in the Word of God. It's about having a relationship with Him and I'm thankful that my husband definitely has one.

2) He loves me in spite of.
Hey, no one is perfect. We all have our faults. But it's just something about someone loving you just because. When people come up to you and you've never met them before but they know who you are because your spouse brags on you ALL THE TIME, yeah that's a good feeling.

3) A man in the house.
Some may disagree with me on this, but I feel more comfortable with a man in the house.  The man is there to protect his family. My husband truly protects his family.  Also, having a son in the house, he can easily see how a man is supposed to take care of his home.

4) A friend forever.
Now, I have female friends that I have been friends with for 20 years or more, but this one is just a tad bit different. This friend sees you at your best and worst.  This friend took a vow before God, you, and guests of being right there by your side. This friend you can tell your good, bad, and all that other stuff in between too.  This friend will stick by you when the going gets rough. Yeah, that kind of friend.

5) He sings.
Now some may know (by my wedding video) that my husband can sing. No, I'm not saying this because he is my husband. We are both heavily involved with music in the church and we both sing. He has a very strong and loud tenor voice. With us both being choir directors, and yes conversations about music doesn't go well in our home because we disagree a lot, we both sing in our choirs. We do sing to each other and it so much fun.

6) A father to my son.
I introduced my son to at the time was my boy-friend but we were pretty serious in our relationship. He knew I had a son because we knew each other many years before we starting officially dating. I was not the type of woman to bring a different man around my son every time I was dating someone.
They instantly got along because they both liked sports, so I was pushed out of the equation. No, I didn't get mad. I was truly thankful to God that a man was in both of our lives so we could be a complete family.

7) He cooks.
Now, he is not a world known chef but, he is my own personal chef. He admits that he is not a fan of cooking but here and now he gets in the mood to cook a meal. Then sometimes, he would cook just so I can get a break from doing it. He introduced me to deer meat. My first deer dish was deed cubed steak with homemad gravy, rice, and biscuits. That was three years ago and I am still hooked.

8) My human GPS.
This dude knows literally where to go. I guess with him hunting all over the state of Alabama, he has gotten familiar with certain roads. It comes in handy because when I don't have a phone signal and can't pull up my GPS, then I can go back to a conversation we had about the area. Several people also call him for locations.

9) He's a good looking big man.
My husband is 6'2 and weigh 365 lbs. I love it! He is my big teddy bear. He has broad shoulders and I love big man. It's not fat to me. It's my personal bodyguard...lol. He dresses nice (with me help...lol) and he has a bald head. It's just something about a bald head that is sexy to me!!

10) He makes me laugh.
He can say some of the craziest things and it makes me laugh. We really do have fun with each other. It's lovely when you can laugh and cry with the same person. He will say some of the weirdest things at the strangest moments to make me laugh. I so appreciate that from him.

So ladies, I challenge you all to sit down and make a list of things that you love about your husband. We are so quick to complain (and yes I'm guilty for that I will admit to it) about what they do wrong. So let's be quick to appreciate them. So, I challenge you to make a list of 10 things you love about your husband. On your mark. Get set. GO!

Until next time, let's start making that list ladies!!!

Preparing For The Week

Many of us live busy lives and we just go with the flow of life instead of preparing for life. As a wife, a mother, a full-time employee, and so many other titles, it is a MUST that we sit down to prepare for the week. In preparing, you are pretty much getting the blueprints lined up for the week, for your family. I see life so much better and easy if I just sit down and prepare.

This is a list of a few of things I suggest to use in preparing for the week:

   Calendar.
This will tell you what you have to do and deadlines. Be specific on the calendar and set color codes so you will know what each item belongs to. Calendars can be done by paper and/or electronically.  The more you make notes about certain appointments, the more you will get adjusted to it. This can and will be your best friend.

Weekly Menu Plan.
Raise your hand if you go to the grocery store 5 times a week? I know I did and it was nerve wrecking. It’s almost like you are buying for instant things and not preparing for later on in the week. Stop that!! You can buy an eraser board and place in the kitchen to keep up with what’s going to be for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner for the week.

    Ironing for the entire week.
Yes, this is something that I do and it helps tremendously. How does it help? Well, let’s just say that you wake up late for work or school. You have to throw something either in the dryer or try to stretch it out to get the wrinkles out. If you set-aside a certain time to do all of your ironing, you will see the difference.

Cleaning Chores.
Set certain days of the week to do certain chores. If you try to do them all in one day, you may tire yourself out. Include everyone in the house to do a chore. The final result of the cleaning is so beneficial.

Some may do if different. Some may do it just like I stated. If you are just starting to do something as such, welcome. If you have been doing this but, it’s been a while since you really went by a schedule, it’s not too late to pick up where you left off at.  As my husband says, “people don’t plan to fail; they fail to plan”.

Until next time, I’m off to prepare for the week!

Communication is Key!

We all know, that men can't read minds. Ladies, we get so picky and upset because our husbands don't think like us and don't cooperate. But one thing lack in a lot of marriages is communication. Most divorces happen because the husband and wife didn't communicate with each other. Life situations come and we are so busy that we only talk about the heat of the moment matters. But is that all for a marriage? Do you talk about the good moments? The bad moments. The ups and downs. Goals and achievements. Expanding your family. Finances. Moving into a new home.  They like pillow talk as much as we do.

Listed are 5 reasons of why communication is key in your marriage.

Pray
I put this first because you should always pray. You can pray alone as well as pray with your spouse. Ask God to open up the waves of communication in your marriage. Also, ask God to open your mind to be willing to accept what conversation you are about to have with your spouse. God should always be the foundation in your marriage!

Listen fully and don't interrupt.
We are both so busy trying to interrupt the other person while they're talking, we're not listening. Especially in a heated argument. But what are you getting out of it? Nothing. You can't resolve something if you don't listen to the instructions to make it better. While your spouse is talking, listen and once it's your turn to talk, ask him to make sure he listens and not interrupt.

Be careful with your tone.
Yelling. Screaming. Cursing. That's not the way that you would want someone to talk to you. So don't you think he deserves that same respect. Sometimes it's not what we say but how we say it.

Talk at a relaxing time.
Talking while you're both busy and can't concentrate is not timing. When you all talk, you both need to be open minded and when nothing is around to disturb you.  You all both should be able to concentrate on what the other person is saying. Staying focus is the main thing.

Be open
There will be statements made in the conversation that neither one of you will like, but this is where you have an open mind and be willing to accept what is being sad. Conversating with your spouse is not something to bring each other down, but build up and grow from there.

There is nothing wrong with scheduling a time to talk to your husband. This will help both of you to prepare for the conversation. This can be the first of many. As time goes forward, communicating on a regular basis will build the trust level in your marriage.

Until next time, I'm going to converse with my husband!!!

First Live Event!!

So who is excited about hosting their first live event??? ME!!! I have been wanting to do this for some time and the opportunity has come for it to happen. I scheduled it out so it would give me enough time to plan things for it, but the main part is out the way, the venue.  It may seem small to some, but it is big to me because this is a way for my network to get notice out in the public eye. I was once told that the only person that is blocking your achievements is you. I could go on and on about this one statement, but you get where I'm going with it.

The Journey of Being a Wife would cordially like to invite you to our first live event: Meet, Mingle, & Drink Wine. I am so looking forward to this event. I can't wait to meet the other wives out there and start a relationship that will live on for years to come.

Many wives only network with other wives that they know and hang out with on a regular basis. I pray that this is an opportunity for us to expand into a statewide network. Stay tuned for more to come.

If you would like to attend this event, please check out our Facebook page or Eventbrite to register and get your tickets today. The tickets are free. So go on and get your ticket!!!

Until next time, I am off to finishing planning!

Hello October!!

Okay, sorry I'm a day late but hello October. Only a couple more months left in this year. Can you believe it? This year went by so fast. So much has happened, both good and bad. But we made it to October. This is the month to start preparing truly for the fall season and that word many don't like to hear, the HOLIDAYS. Yes, they are coming so you might as well be prepared for them. I did a post for Alabama Women Bloggers Community on how to prepare for the holidays. It was fun to just sit and type it out because this is my favorite time of the year.

I have a lot planned for this month, but I'm going to do a better job with sticking with my calendar and not being afraid to say the word NO.

Well, I'm off to prepare for my October. It will be great. Stay tuned!!

Until next time,
