New Page...Being a Wife Network!

Lately, it has been on my heart to network with other wives and have a community where we can help each other. I did a post entitled "Networking with other Wives" and I got some great feedback from that post. Also, my blogging mom, Javacia Harris Bowser, informed me and others to start a Facebook group outside of your blog fan page. I immediately said...GREAT! This is how I will start my networking with other wives and build from that. But, of course, I had to plan it out first of how and what I was going to do with it.

Well, on September 1, 2015, Being a Wife Network became a live page on Facebook. This will be the main umbrella with the blog. Under this umbrella, there will be events, posts, ideas, a support system, attire, and much more. I'm excited about this new "journey" that is going forth and I'm not going to back down on it. Stay tuned for more to come!!

Until next time, let the journey begin!!

Blogger of the Month!!

Okay, this month has been crazy busy but, that is a good thing.

At the beginning of the month, I received a message to inform me that I was selected to be "Blogger of the Month" for Alabama Women Bloggers website. It was early in the morning (6 am), on a Sunday, and I saw the message, but it didn't click to me of what I just read just yet. So, as I prepare my family and I for church service, in which that particular Sunday was extremely a busy day for me, it still hadn't hit me yet. I did respond back to the person over the website and thanked her for the opportunity. But it really didn't hit me until I got back home later that day and had to prepare some posts for the website.  I told my husband and in the midst of telling him, the excitement sneaked out! I was like who me? I couldn't believe it. I immediately thought to myself, oh my, I have to really become professional now, but that's a bad thing.

While in my home office, as I prepare to type my first post, I started thanking God for the opportunity. It's amazing of how He will open doors for you. That first door was opened on August 1st when I attended the Bloginista Mini-Con hosted by Founder of See Jane Write, Javacia Harris-Bowser. I got a chance to network with some powerful women that are right here in Birmingham, Alabama and that is all it took.  Javacia has been wonderful with guiding us all in the right direction regarding writing, whether for a blog, magazine, or book.  I also came across some wonderful sites and pages that enhanced the networking as well. Alabama Women Bloggers site was one of the ones I started networking with.  My first opportunity with them was on August 19th when a blog post I did was featured on their site. So after all of this, my writing has gotten better and consistent with my blogging schedule and I make sure that I am doing it right. There is still so much more to learn, but I can say that I'm off to a great start.

So this opportunity of being "Blogger of the Month" has opened another opportunity. I have been writing posts on the word prepare and trust me, this has indeed prepared me for the next level of my blog and business. I write about things that are real and if I don't experience it myself, then I don't write about it. This has prepared me to believe in myself that with God all things are possible and He is truly blessing me with through this network.

I thank Kari Scott and the staff of Alabama Women Bloggers for this opportunity and I couldn't have asked for a better task and word to work with. I looked forward to many future endeavors with our companies and the things to come.

Until next time, I'm off being the Blogger of the Month!!!

So Much Excitement Today!!!

Today is Wednesday, September 23, 2015, and I have a lot to celebrate on this day.  I have been waiting on this day all week and now it is finally here and I can't keep my excitement down!

What am I celebrating? Well, let me tell you.

Happy Birthday to my gorgeous mom. She is everything to me.  I love her so much and would not trade her for nothing. My mom is a great role model. She retired from her job back in 2004 at the age of 44 and that just amazed me.  She is also a musician for a church. She has been in the ministry for almost 40 years and only been at two churches. That speaks volume. She's strong. She's confident. She's loveable. She's a counselor. She can cook. The list goes on and on. But one thing that I am proud to say, she is my mom.  Happy Birthday to Ms. Valarie E. Hicks!!!

Two zero. Two zero zero nine! What is that you ask? Well, let me tell. On September 23, 2009, the lovely and distinguish Jessica Wilson founded the organization titled Theta Phi Sigma Christian Sorority, Inc. I became a member June 21, 2014. I was #12 of that ooooh so FRESH (Forever Redeemed Eternally Serving Him). I currently serve as the Interim Vice-President of the Esther Eta Chapter in Birmingham, AL.  Six years down and many, many more to come! To all my sorors, near and far, Happy Founder's Day to Dr. Jessica Wilson and other members!

Oh last but certainly not least, the FIRST DAY OF FALL!! I have mentioned just a couple of times of how I love this time of the year. I have already purchased the decor to put up in my home and the fragrances, yep got those ready too. This the relaxing part of the year to me personally and I look forward to it every year. I personally wish it was like this all year around but hey, I will enjoy it while it's here.

So as you see, there is a lot going on today but all for the necessary reasons.

Until next time, I'm off to celebrate!!!

Time to relax!

When was the last time you relaxed? When was the last time you actually turned off your cell phone? When was the last time you stepped away from social media for a day? When was the last time you turned off the lights and television and just lie there in the dark? When was the last time you took time out for yourself?  If you can't answer two or more of these questions, then guess what??? It's time for you to relax!!! We wear too many hats and see about everybody else, but ourselves! I know I do and I often beat myself up about this. I keep saying I'm going to rest. I'm going to take this day off. I'm going to go off somewhere peace and quiet. But I don't.

Well, guess what I'm going to start!!! If I can schedule things to work on and things for everybody else, I can schedule myself an off day. The same goes for you. I don't think the world is going to end just because we have taken one, two, or maybe even a week off just to ourselves. I think we deserve it, don't you? So let's get to planning our personal vacation. You don't have to go off far but just somewhere we can RELAX!!!

Everybody needs time to them self!!

Until next time, I'm off to planning my personal vacation!!

"Falling" Back in Love Challenge - Day 7...Final Day!!

Well, haven't this been a delight?!?! I honestly had forgot about some of the things that we used to do before we got married and when we first got married, so I had a lot of fun. I hope you all enjoyed this 7-day challenge of "Falling" back in love with your spouse. As I stated at the beginning, it wasn't that you were not in love but it was just a little push to remind you why you were in love with that person. A busy life can make a dull life and hopefully this brought some "life" back into your marriage.  For our last day, it's a biggie!

Day 7

This is something that ALL marriages should do. I put this last because prayer is important not only to the relationship but, to the individual. These last 6 days you have participated in this challenge has been great. Well, let's pray that it continues.
Pray and ask God to keep you focused on Him and your husband that He has blessed you with. A praying woman is a powerful woman. Pray alone. Pray together. Hold hands. Include your children in on the prayer. Pray as a family.
The Bible tells us that man should always pray (Luke 18 chapter, verse 1). Continue to pray that God will always restore the love that you have for each other and nothing or no one can break that love.

Thank you all so much for participating in this 7-day challenge. There will be more to come!

Until next time, I'm off to pray with and for my husband!

"Falling" Back in Love Challenge - Day 6

Well, we are almost at the end of our challenge but hasn't it been a joy? The memories have just come in and flooded your memory of why you married him. Sometimes it takes someone else to tell us to do something before we do it. Not sure why it's like that but, it is.  We all have a busy schedule and sometimes those things take over our lives and we can't focus. But, it's okay we just need to make sure we show love to our spouse in the midst of that busy schedule.

Now on to Day 6:

For the last 5 days, you have had the opportunity to reflect back on why you fell in love with the man you are with. You've gotten the butterflies all over again and every time you think about him, you laugh like a little girl and start to blush. GREAT!!! The Love Notes. Date Night. The List. Family Picnic outing. Dinner Date. All of these assisted you in going back to when you were in love. It doesn't have to stop after the challenge ends, it can continue. Your memories are the glue to your marriage that sticks it together. From that, you build and build and build. Make your marriage the kind where your children will admire yours and want theirs as such.
Continue to think on what made this relationship start.
Continue to think on what made you get married.
Continue to think on who and what you made a vow to.

Trust me, it's so worth it.

Until next time, I'm off to continue to reflect on why
I'm proud to be the Mrs. La Costa D. Gaston!!

"Falling" Back in Love Challenge - Day 5

So I'm sure by now you have remembered why you fell in love with each other and it feels good to be back there doesn't it? I know, you can thank me later. :-)

But let's keep this thing going.

On to Day 5.

Dinner Date.
It's time for you two to sit down and have a nice candle lit dinner.
This can be done at home or at your favorite restaurant. If you want to go the extra mile, suggest the restaurant where you had your first date at (if it's still in
Relax. Enjoy. Laugh. Talk. Look into each other eyes. Eat.
Hold hands. Share your food.
This is something that will relax the both of you and the talk on the way home or cleaning up from the dinner at home, will be so worth it.

Until next time, I'm off to make some dinner reservations! :-)

"Falling" Back in Love Challenge - Day 4

Day 1-done. Day 2-done. Day 3-done! Having fun?? I know you are!! Sometimes it takes a little extra effort to sit down and reflect on the memories. Does he look like that same handsome man that you fell in love with years ago? I'm sure he does!!!

Well, this next day is a part for the family.

Day 4:

Family Picnic Day
This is a part that you, your husband, and the kids can do!
Have a picnic day.
Pack some sandwiches or a nice meal and take off to a local park.
This is a time of where you both can reflect on what you built together; your family.
If you don't have any kids, then you and your spouse go on a picnic.

Take pictures. Play games. Have fun!!

Until next time, I'm off to the park!

"Falling" Back in Love challenge - Day 3

The Okay, so we have done the love note and the date night. How did you enjoy those? Are the feelings you had starting to come back? Are you both starting to remember why you fell in love with each other? Well let's keep it going and you are really going to remember now.

Let's start on day 3:

The List.
Both of you will make a list of the items that you both miss about the other person. Once the list is completed, you will seal it in an envelope. Exchange envelopes. Read the lists in separate rooms. You will have 15 minutes to reflect on the list.
After the time is up, you will come together and discuss what was on the list.

*The purpose of this exercise is to realize that you both have not given your all in the marriage and now that you know, you will pick up where you left off at.*

Until next time, I'm off to make my list.

"Falling" Back in Love Challenge - Day 2

So how was Day 1? Did you laugh when you wrote the note? Did you get an answer? I hope it was yes? Well, you are definitely off to a great start.

Let's go to Day 2.

Date night.
Get up. Get dress. Go out on a date. Enjoy the night together.
Go dancing. Go to the movies. Go and listen in on live music being played.
Whatever you do, do it together.

*Date nights are essential to a marriage. Keep them going*

Until next time, I'm off to my date!!!

"Falling" Back in Love - 7 day challenge

Since the fall season is right around the corner from us, let’s dedicate this month to “falling back in love” with your spouse. Do you remember what it took for you to grasp his heart? Do you remember what he did to grasp your heart? What did it take for you all to both be head over hills with each other? Well, I’m challenging you all in a 7-day challenge to “fall” back in love! Are you up for the challenge?

Day 1:
Love notes.
Remember the famous love note in school? Do you like me: circle one YES or NO.  Well, do that to your spouse but don’t send it via text message.
Get a sticky note or a piece of paper and write your message on there. Put it in his wallet, briefcase, lunch bag, or in something that you know when he opens it, he will see it.
Let him know that he will have to hand you the answer and not text you.

*The purpose of this challenge is to feel the butterflies in your stomach again like you use to in the beginning*

Until next time, I'm off to falling back in love!

Hello September!

OMG, I have been waiting on this time of year since it left! I love this time of the year. The crispness of the air. The changing of the leaves. The falling of the leaves. The football games. The barn fires. Preparing for the holidays. The beautification of the home decorations.  The weather. The list goes on and on. September, as I like to call it, the relaxing month, is time to get back with your family. I know in the summertime, we go on vacations and travel, and just so busy. But, now we can all now relax and enjoy the easiness of life now.

I also like that the evening time comes at a decent hour now. I mean I don’t like it getting dark at the time you go to bed because that defeats the purpose of going to bed at a decent hour. Now, the only times I enjoy about the summer is my birthday and my wedding anniversary. Other than that, you all can have it. I don’t like heat that is hard to bare. I mean here in Alabama, the summer is like a heat wave that has settled here and don’t want to live. You really have to stay hydrated so you won’t pass out or get ill.

Now, the officially first day of fall is Wednesday, September 23, 2015, and trust me, my house is going to be prepared for it.

Until next time, I’m getting ready for FALL!!!
