I did it!!!

This post is more so of a “brag on me” post!! Hey, why wait on someone else to do it when you can do it yourself. On August 1st, I attended the See Jane Write Bloganista Mini-Con where I was able to get some valuable information and meet some great people. It was “AWESOME SAUCE”. Founder of See Jane Write, Javacia Harris Bowser, had some great panelist and MC. In this conference, I was able to network, get great information on how to stick with my BRAND and BUSINESS, set goals, and just go for it.  Since I have been blogging, I have had so many ideas of wanting to do this and that, but never got the “push” to do so. I was that type of person that listened to the negative instead of the positive. I was the one that told her friends and family what I was going to do with the blog and accepted their feedback as my push. Was it positive feedback? No. Was it beneficial feedback? No. Was I allowing them to set my path for me? Yes. Did I benefit from it? No. So out of those three questions, the majority of the answers are no. Well, I’m not living on the no anymore.

While writing down notes and potential ideas, in now what I call my blogging bible, my goals started to become a real. They started to become beneficial. They started to push me to be bigger and better. The theme of the conference was “Blog Like a Boss”. That is now what I do; blog like a Boss. Why? Because it’s my BRAND and my BUSINESS, so that makes me the BOSS. I do have a story to tell. I do have events that I want to host. I do a have a network that I want to come to life. I do want to better myself and be on top. I want people to remember me while I’m not in the room. I want people to know what my BRAND is and how they can benefit from it. Chanda Temple, co-author of Birmingham’s Best Bites book, in which I purchased my book and she autographed it, made the statement “respect what you have to share and share what you have to respect”. I said WOW! Every time I open my blogging bible, I see that statement. If I don’t respect it, why should I expect anyone else to. That speaks volume on you as a person and your BRAND. “If you didn’t fit in their society, come up with your own!” Those words were said by Eunice Elliott. Boy did that stick on me like the color of my skin!!! I was devastated because a blogging society didn’t accept my membership (see this is me allowing others to control my destiny). When I brought the question, to the panelist, Ms. Elliott ended that question with that statement. As the professor says in the movie “Despicable Me”, LIGHT BULB!!!

I also learned how to stick and commit to a blogging schedule. I had a planner, but I wasn’t consistent with it. I would open it every other week, or when I thought about it. Well, no one took it serious, and I don’t blame them because I didn’t. Well not anymore!
I was challenged earlier in the month to set 5 goals that I wanted to achieve for my blog. Well, outside of those 5, I also made a goal checklist for my blog to achieve other goals by a certain time. Did I achieve all 5? I did not. But I did achieve 3 and that’s big! It makes me feel great when I see my accomplishments. One huge goal was to get a new logo. Well, with the help of Natalie Osbourn, of Thirty-Seventh Avenue, I got a new logo. It’s catchy. It’s chic. It’s me! I am the Journey of being a wife and she made it come to life. The other ones I achieve was I did 10 posts this month (this one makes the 10th one) and I ordered my business cards. The other two that I didn’t accomplish, it’s fine. Not taking them off the list, I’m just moving them to a different month to achieve. Philippians chapter 4 and verse 13 says,“I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me”. I have God first in everything I do and with Him, it is possible. I also live by this: in order for God to help you, you have to help God.  God will put it before you and it’s up to you to bring it life. So, as I continue this “journey”, I will continue to work harder and be better than the day before.  I always tell myself on my way to work, only you have the ability to control your destiny. What will the benefit be today?

So what am I saying in this post? Set goals. Achieve goals. Don’t give up. Go for it. Only you have the ability to do so. I have met and made some great connections with people that we both can benefit from and it doesn’t stop there.

I’m very proud of myself and to hear my husband tell me the same, makes me feel even better!!!

Until next time, I’m off to achieve more goals!!

Networking with other wives

Since I have been married, I have come across a lot of other married women.  They all range in different age groups: younger, same age, and older.  I enjoy meeting other wives because we share something in common, MARRIAGE! We are not all the same TRUST ME!! Lol. Some wives are the dominant person in their marriage and the husband allow them be so (backwards, yes I know but hey, they like it I love it). Some wives are overbearing towards their husband (meaning they check behind and before {lol} them. Some wives are being abuse in their marriage both verbally and physically and they are too scared to leave. Some wives are enjoying the "journey" of being married. Some wives are letting God guide them every step of the way in their marriage and it shows. Some wives are married but still living that single life. Some wives that are not good with finances. The list goes on and on. Every time I meet one, I learn from it whether it's bad or good. I use everything as a learning stage in life. But God knows, it is definitely an honor to be married.

So why not go out and network with other wives? It's very beneficial and just realize that you're not alone and trust me, other wives want to be around other "sister wives". It's not meant for us to be the same and be perfect, but we are in a family and need to be there for each other. We can't tell you what to do in your marriage, that's not our place. But we can encourage. We can be that shoulder that you will need to cry one. We can be that ear to listen and no go and GOSSIP to the next person. We can be that sister that if you need something, they can go to you and not worry about it.

Check around town to see if there are any local groups of where wives meet maybe weekly, monthly, quarterly and network with them. You will be amazed and will have fun!!

Go out and NETWORK!!!

Until next time,

You make your own rules!!

Who says you can't be positive? Who says you can't dream? Who says you can't have what you want? Who says you can't live a happy and prosperous life? Well, whoever said it is not you so why listen to them. I mean honestly, you are the only person that is holding yourself back right? Stop going by their rules, and MAKE YOUR OWN RULES

As a wife.
I sometimes sit myself to the side to please my husband and be the best parent to my son. I stopped going to the salon. I stop buying me things I like. I stopped hanging with friends. I stopped being pretty. All of that and where did I end up? On the couch or in the bed miserable and lonely. Miserable in the aspect of not enjoying life. I was being that "housewife" even while having a full-time job. The cooking. The cleaning. The submissiveness. The all in one packet deal wife. It was hard, but I did with a smile.  But guess what?  I made my own rule up.  La Costa can still do all of that and still enjoy her life. So what rule did I come up with? Always make it a goal to get and do what I wanted to do. I have specific days of the week and month to do what I want.  Life is so much better.  It was nobody's fault but mine with me not enjoying life.

As an employee.
I have currently been working in the real estate world for almost 15 years now. It has been a pleasure and many ups and down. But it's a job. In the past, I have allowed myself to take the "shorter end of the stick" and not value myself as an employee.  So if I don't value myself, then who will in corporate America? I then wrote down my qualifications and updated my resume. I spoke with some other colleagues and got some reviews from them and was like wow, I really need to start valuing myself more. Where am I going with this? Glad you ask.  Stop settling for the jobs that don't allow you to grow. Make your own rule about the jobs you think and know that you are qualified for. Don't belittle yourself and think that you are not worth it. If you have managerial experience, don't settle for an entry level. Go after what you want!

As a woman.
We wear many, many hats. But no one wants to wear the hat for us. Take time for yourself. Take a bubble bath. Go on a cruise. Go read a new book. Cut your hair. Put some highlights in your hair. Buy a new car (that's a big step). Buy a new house (that's a huge step). You know do things you want to do. Nobody is holding you back but YOU! Start enjoying life to the fullest. Make your own rules to doing the things you want to do. It makes life so much better. THE SKY IS THE LIMIT ONLY IF YOU ALLOW IT!!

So what is the post saying; very simple, make your own rules for own life and be great in all you do!

Until next time, go be GREAT!

My very first Periscope...part 1!

So tonight is the night that I am doing my very first Periscope! Can you say excited and nervous at the same time?? I have not been on Periscope very long but what I have seen and heard has been very beneficial. I have listened to many that have said if you want to do it, do it. So guess what, I'm going to DO IT! Almost like Nike's slogan, Just Do It!

I have so many goals for my blog and I'm going to focus on achieving them. I may not achieve them all but as long as I can get pass the 50% mark, I'm doing really good.

So why don't you join me tonight in my first Periscope regarding "Date Night Ideas". If you can't join in tonight, you can always check out the replay. Thank you all for your support and love and I will see you tonight!!!

How I plan for the week.

Okay, so we all have to now get back on a daily schedule to make life a little more easier. I am the type of person that walks around with so many calendars, both paper and electronically, and yet I still miss something. Strange, I know. But I am 99% on top of my schedule; it's just that 1% that I forget about lol. I sit down on Sunday evenings and/or night to do my planning for the week. It prepares me for the things that I have coming up, both personally and business. I have a little confession and yes I'm going to put it out there in the open world.  I sometimes wonder off (in my head) during church service on my schedule and start writing notes down relating to my calendar. I know that may sounds bad, but it just pops up and I have to take advantage of But trust me, I still be into the service. I truly need the Word of God in my life.

But any

Calendar Set Up
Once I finally get home, I either go into my home office or sit in the living room with my calendars and go to work. I ask my husband and my son if they have anything that I need to put on the calendar. My houshold is on a one car system and trust me, it makes it a little difficult at times, but we make it work. I love using Cozi planning calendar for my family. Things are colored coded and it helps tremendously. We all can add and remove things on the calendar and we will all see it.  I also use Google calendar. I have a google account and trust me, I take use of all of their products! :-)

Meal Planning
Now, this is something that I just recently got in the hang of and it is absolutely wonderful.  It helps in knowing what you have and what you need to get from the store. Also, if you are trying to save, it helps with taking your lunch to work. Buying out everyday adds up and can hurt your budget. Trust me, I know and I hate looking at my bank statements. A dear friend of mine has started her business called Mom's Happier Meals, to help with meal planning for your family. I have a dry eraser board on my refrigerator where I will post my "Costa's Cafe" menu (a name my husband gave me because I love to cook and stay in the kitchen), to let my family know the menu for the day. I also put it on my personal calendar to remind me. You can subscribe to get the weekly planning meals.

Blogging schedule
During the Bloganista Mini-Conference earlier this month, I learned something key, have a BLOGGING schedule! I never thought about having a strict schedule, I just did blogging as a hobby. But its my BRAND and my BUSINESS, so in order to take it to the next level. So in my calendar that I carry everywhere with me, I use the color "Pink" when I write down ideas for my blog. This keeps me abreast to what is coming up for my blog post, etc. It has helped in many ways that I am truly thankful for.

We all have a busy life and sometimes its just difficult to sit down and plan. If you don't think a paper calendar will help, utilize your calendar on your phone. Set reminders when you set your appointments to help you remember. Use sticky notes around the house, car, and your office to help you remember. Once you start it, it will become your best friend.  If you need certain documents to help with your planning, head over to our printables tab and select the document of your choice.

Until next time,

Off to planning I go!! SMOOCHES!!!

Surrounding myself with the 3 P's: Potential, Prayerful, & Positive

Lately, I have had the urge to just rant on and on about the things that I don’t like and don’t want to be a part with but I notice that when I prepare myself to say it, nothing comes out. I have tried that over and over but nothing. Then I started listening to God and getting myself lined up with the Word of God and He is handling it. So that is why I am focussed on surrounding myself with people that fits the category of the 3ps…Potential, Prayerful, and Positive.

Potential. Why this area first? Well, it will reflect the fact that if they compare and benefit to me personally and business wise.  Everybody you speak to is not beneficial. I want to surround myself with people with potential because it will allow us both to grow and become better people. If you have more knowledge than I do in certain an area, that is fine. I don’t want a “push me over” type person that is going to force it because it may not be my time to grasp it. We will benefit each other and not the other way around.

Prayerful. Now you do have to be careful when you tell others to pray for you because they could be praying against you. But, there are some that are sincere with their prayer. Having a prayer partner is key in life because at the drop of a minute they will pray for you and you can actually feel the prayer. God hears sincere prayers and those are the ones that matter. Then when you and your prayer partner get together and pray, that’s a powerful feeling. I know who my prayer partners are and I’m keeping them close…lol

Positive. Now I can talk about this one forever but I will keep it simple and sweet. All of this negative talking and treatment, I am just removing myself from. I don’t have time for it and the more I’m around it, the more I will start acting like it. I am getting older, wiser, and just don’t have time for it. It’s not benefiting me in any way so why join in with it. I’m trying to build myself up not down. I don’t have time for the back and forth conversations that's going nowhere. What’s the purpose of them because, by the end of it, you would have forgotten what caused it in the first place? I am a woman of God, a wife, a mother, a professional, and I am going to carry myself as such. As the statement says, “I’m not ignoring you; I just don’t see any use for you anymore”. That’s how I see my circle of “associates” now. If you’re not benefitting, then bye-bye.

This is making my life better. I'm trying to go up not down. So somethings I come against in life is not going to be for me. Guess what?? That is fine and I can accept that!!!

Until next time,

P.S. I love this quote!!

Life is too short to...

Recently I had a person that I knew closely to pass away. It was a shocked to everybody that this had happened, but it wasn’t a shocking to God because He truly knows our beginning and our ending. Over the last few months, I have been hearing about the death of many people I knew.  So in sitting and attending some of the funeral services, I started to think “life is too short to”, and then the list started. I see and hear so many stories of people disagreeing on this and that, and it’s not even relevant to anything important. Fighting. Killing. Gossiping. Back stabbing. Cheating. Lying. All of these things and more don’t make it worth it. Life is too short to do any of those things to anybody.  We are so quick in worrying about getting revenge on someone and that person is not even thinking about you or the situation. How can we go to God and ask Him for forgiveness when we can’t even get along with our fellow man/woman that we see on a regular basis?

If you sit and think about if I wasn’t here, I wonder what would happen? To my family? To my friends? To my job? To my church? To my car? To my house?  Guess what? It’s going to keep on going. Many of us stress over so much, I know I do, and don’t realize that it is killing us. Stress is a dangerous thing. I have learned now that I can only control the things that I can control and everything else I don’t worry about.  Don’t put yourself in a situation that you know that is going to be very stressful and you end up getting sick over it. It’s not worth it.

Take time for yourself and enjoy life. “Life is too short to” not enjoy your life.  Enjoy your family. That job is going to go on whether you’re there or not.  Go to a nice restaurant and enjoy dinner. Go to a concert of your favorite artist. Go on a nice getaway trip. Go get a spa. Go to the salon and get pampered. Go enjoy LIFE!! You don’t want to go on in life regretting everything you did just because you didn’t have the money to do this and that.

Until next time,

Back to school we go!!!

I think every parent has been waiting on this time of the year to come…BACK TO SCHOOL!!! My son went back to school on today and he started the 9thgrade. Yes, I have a freshman in high school and yes I got a little emotional. He is my only child and he is growing up to be a nice young man. Dad and I really try our best to raise him into a smart and respectable young man. I personally think that we have done a great job so far (pats self on back) J.  But oh my, it was so hard to keep food in the house. Whew!!! I mean I understand he is growing but my goodness. I would come in from work and want a snack or something just to munch on before dinner and guess what, nope not today unless I go back to the store and buy it. My son mentioned that the food is calling his name while he is there at home so he answers to the food. Yeah right?!?!?

I really enjoy looking at all of the pictures of the kids’ first day back or first week back to school. Some look excited because they are in a new grade and/or a new school and just excited about taking on a new level. Then there are some that has that look saying why I have to go back now; I’m not ready to go back to school yet. But I know “we” as parents are glad to have them back in school. I prayed this morning with my son, as I always do, and I also prayed for the other students and teachers. I am currently in school to become a teacher and I have been in a teaching setting before, so it is not the easiest job. It’s a daily task that both the teachers and our children have to face, so we should all come together and pray for them; they need it!!

Another reason why I’m excited is because “back to school” means “back to football season”!!! My son is playing freshman football and I plan on being at every single game to show my support!  I love this time of the year. So stay tuned for the football game updates and pictures!

Prayer for the school year:

Heavenly Father I come thanking You for another opportunity. Lord, thank You for keeping us all from the hurt, harm, and danger.  Lord God please be with the students, teachers, and faculty members in each and every school system.  Lord God keep Your protection all around them. Help them all to be focus and positive and make this year one of the best years they have had ever in school. Protect them all from seen and unseen dangers. Lord God we love You, honor You, and praise You. It’s in Jesus’ name I do pray, AMEN!

Until next time,

The Bloganista Mini-Con was AWESOME!!

I would not dare close this day without telling you how much I enjoyed The Bloganista Mini-Con presented by Laura Vincent Printing and Design. Oh my word, it was completely mind blowing and much needed.  I have only been in the blogging world for three years now and there is so much more that I need to know. Attending this conference, today gave me the opportunity to not only network with some awesome bloggers but I gathered the information that will not only enhance the brand of my blog but enhance me as an individual.

Some of the bloggers there today, I knew from other events that I had attended as well. We follow each other on social network pages. I learned so much about branding, social media, being confident, networking, and being your own voice. That is key for me of not being ashamed of having a voice in my blog because it is "my blog". I am the BRAND of my blog. I am the VOICE of my blog. I am The Journey of Being A Wife. I have to be confident in myself and my blog.

Of course you know, this post can go on for days to come, but I won' A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Mrs. Javacia Harris Browser, the beautiful master-mind behind See Jane Write Birmingham; our special guest, Eunice Elliott; and the illustrious speakers and panelists today:
Jeneise Hosey (The Je Ne Sais Quoi), Chanda Temple (Chanda Temple Writes); Heather Brown (My Life Well Loved); Annalise DeVries (Hoffman Media); Maacah Davis (Belladona Magazine); Kaneisha Sims (Red Pash Magazine); and my long lost Dome King (Stellar Fashion and Fitness). So as you can see, we had some great speakers and an absolutely wonderful time.

Now you know, I had to take some pictures. Not many but I hope you will enjoy them.  Oh one more thing, I purchased my copy of Birmingham's Best Bites signed by Mrs. Chanda Temple herself!! That just makes me feel so great. Go and grab your copy today; it's so worth it!

So watch out, a new "journey" is about to take place with MY BRAND!

Until next time,
